Found this surfing the inter webs this morning. One of my favorite films of all time is a Trans allegory…

Lilly Wachowski and her sister Lana are the infamous creators of the Matrix trilogy. I discovered this interview she did for Netflix to discuss the sisters creation of and implementation of their art into the Matrix.

I am fascinated by this for a number of reasons. The first and foremost is, both sisters are notoriously shy from doing interviews. In fact I’d say that is the first time I’ve ever actually heard either of them talk. Hearing their thoughts and creative process on one of the most influential and important sci-fi trilogies of the the last twenty years is fascinating.

Second, I love that the film itself is a closeted allegory for trans people. I mean when you watch the film, the signs are there when you look for it. Hiding it from corporate culture and putting it out there. It can’t be taken back. The franchise made literally billions of dollars. It’s something Warner Bros, can’t ignore. Kudos to the Wachowskis for pulling that off.

Lastly, I mean this really throws a wrench in Men’s Rights Activists plans. The whole red pill idea, is a metaphor to the journey a trans person takes in their life. Awakening to change. Kind of hard to associate it now with misogyny and bigotry.

All this makes me kind of want to rewatch the trilogy.
