All it took was a coup attempt…

Well he’s finally gone from social media:

It’s frustrating that all it took was a coup attempt from his followers, initiated by him. The fact that Donald Trump will no longer be allowed to stir up division and hatred online is a good thing regardless. Unfortunately the right wing news echo chamber still exists. I suspect a few of them will still go to him for quotes or some perspective bit. At least until another demagogue comes along.

America…

In case you were under a rock all day yesterday, the American Capitol building was overrun by terrorist and insurrectionists. You can see the coverage here:

I posted earlier this week about how Trump will be a thorn in the side of America for years to come. I didn’t think I’d be proven wrong this early after writing it.

In the end, we knew it all along

America…you disappointed me

It’s Nov 4th and we haves no idea who the president of the United States is. In all honesty, I suspect we don’t truly know for a few weeks. Trump already declared preemptive victory just as was predicted. So who knows what other tricks he has up his sleeves to contest the outcome. Joe Biden apparently has a clearer path to the White House, but the damage is done.

The rift in American society isn’t at the top, its at the grassroots level and is chasm deep. Looking as the results came in, nail biting race by nail biting race, state by state, it was clear, a large size of America was still okay with their choice they made in 2016.

It’s Election Day in America!

I can’t seem to remember the last time an election has caused so much anxiety in the world as this one.

Never has an election’s choices been so stark as this one. We here in Canada and I suspect around the world, are observing with a sort of morbid curiosity. And a sense of helpless trepidation.

It is safe to say that the previous four years of Donald Trump as president has been an unmitigated disaster. Racial divisions, increased inequality, a death toll from COVID-19 that could rival any of America’s wars, and of course the insults and damage done to it’s relationships with it’s allies.

My In Depth Analysis of Last Night’s Presidential Debate…

We’re going to have to talk about America at some point.

“America, I love you but you’re freaking me out…”

– America (You’re Freaking Me Out), The Menzingers

The USA is number 1. Number 1 in rate of COVID-19 infections and yesterday surpassed over 100,000 deaths from the disease. With a global death tally of over 300,000, the USA has roughly a third of all deaths for this pandemic. It should be clear to any impartial observer that America has absolutely failed in meeting this challenge.

The New York Times front page this morning is a monument to America’s failure.

The New York Times front page for May 24 showing the names of 100,000 COVID-19 victims to date

I say America’s and not just Trump’s because these victims are just as much a result of a culture of selfishness and greed, as they are of Donald Trump’s incompetence and lack of compassion.

They have no one to blame but themselves for this disaster. Where does a country go after a failure of this magnitude?
