All it took was a coup attempt…

Well he’s finally gone from social media:

It’s frustrating that all it took was a coup attempt from his followers, initiated by him. The fact that Donald Trump will no longer be allowed to stir up division and hatred online is a good thing regardless. Unfortunately the right wing news echo chamber still exists. I suspect a few of them will still go to him for quotes or some perspective bit. At least until another demagogue comes along.

America…

In case you were under a rock all day yesterday, the American Capitol building was overrun by terrorist and insurrectionists. You can see the coverage here:

I posted earlier this week about how Trump will be a thorn in the side of America for years to come. I didn’t think I’d be proven wrong this early after writing it.

In the end, we knew it all along

You can’t turn anywhere today without seeing the news of Donald Trumps subversion of American democracy. In case you somehow missed it here’s the audiotape:

Joe Biden is about to inherit a mess…

Well, what a week it’s been eh?

Tuesday’s American Election has turned into a week long event. Filled with ups and downs as vote counts have slowly trickled in. Evidence of a broken bureaucracy where partisan interests clearly tried to discourage and dismantle the voting infrastructure. The saving grace is a GOTV machine that encouraged mail in voting early.

However, dealing with obtuse and obstructionist state voting apparatus are the least of Biden’s worries. His problems are much much deeper. By now, you’ve probably seen the armed protests by Trump supporters outside election offices.

America…you disappointed me

It’s Nov 4th and we haves no idea who the president of the United States is. In all honesty, I suspect we don’t truly know for a few weeks. Trump already declared preemptive victory just as was predicted. So who knows what other tricks he has up his sleeves to contest the outcome. Joe Biden apparently has a clearer path to the White House, but the damage is done.

The rift in American society isn’t at the top, its at the grassroots level and is chasm deep. Looking as the results came in, nail biting race by nail biting race, state by state, it was clear, a large size of America was still okay with their choice they made in 2016.

It’s Election Day in America!

I can’t seem to remember the last time an election has caused so much anxiety in the world as this one.

Never has an election’s choices been so stark as this one. We here in Canada and I suspect around the world, are observing with a sort of morbid curiosity. And a sense of helpless trepidation.

It is safe to say that the previous four years of Donald Trump as president has been an unmitigated disaster. Racial divisions, increased inequality, a death toll from COVID-19 that could rival any of America’s wars, and of course the insults and damage done to it’s relationships with it’s allies.

My In Depth Analysis of Last Night’s Presidential Debate…

The death of RBG has turned the American election into a battle for it’s soul

The news was shocking to many last night. Supreme Court justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg passed away. A judicial mind of eminent success, I believe I would do her memory injustice to attempt to categorize it here. Needless to say, her presence on the U.S. Supreme Court was a beacon for liberals and progressives. Helping to keep the progressive light alive in the face of overwhelming conservatism.

Progressives on both sides of the border are trembling in fear over what comes next. I started to wonder why. My only answer to that was that progressives in the United States took their eyes off the prize. Often too obsessed with winning the presidency, they forgot how their system of government worked. Republicans and conservatives did not. They have been playing the long game for decades, if not generations now. Institutionalizing a specific brand of conservatism in bodies around the country. Most relevant and poignant right now is the Federalist society. An organization which many probably are not aware of, and yet have probably more impact on their lives than they are aware of. The society is a group of conservative minded, and financially backed legal minds and judges with the goal of remaking the American judiciary in their image. Five of the judges on the U.S. Supreme Court are members. President Trump, doesn’t have the attention span or the stomach to have a meaningful opinion on this particular subject, so he has been essentially farming out the appointment process to the society to pick his judicial appointments. I’m hoping you can start to see where I am going with this.

In other news, the American empire continues to decline

I shared a Rolling Stone article back in early August by a Canadian professor arguing we’re watching the fall of American prestige.

This week, the author of that article did an interview with a New Zealand morning show. That video is shared here:

I think there is a hint of truth to much of what he says. Especially in light of how many Americans are rushing to the defense of this kid:
